ENG101: Too Good to Be True? Truth, Belief, and Power in the Postmodern World
What is truth in today’s world, and who gets to decide? In this course, we will explore how truth is questioned, distorted, or defended in different situations, from breaking news to scientific claims. Through thought-provoking readings, class discussions, TED Talks, and real world examples, we will examine how bias, media, and power influence what people believe.
As we explore these ideas, you will also strengthen your academic reading and writing skills. You will learn how to build your own arguments, respond to different perspectives, and support your ideas with credible sources. No matter what your major is, this course will help you become a more confident and critical reader, thinker, and writer.
